The current chair of the Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists is William H. Schramm, who was appointed to the board in 2018. Schramm retired in 2017 after 28 years with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ). During this part of his long career, he worked closely with industry, consultants, regulators, and private citizens, to investigate and remediate over 3000 contaminated sites. As a supervisor in the Remediation Division, he managed 16 employees. He has also taught as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Geology at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and served on numerous graduate thesis committees. Additionally, in the late 1970s, he served on the staff of the Geology Department at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and in the early 1980s, he worked with Exxon Minerals in Wyoming to coordinate uranium mining activities. Schramm holds BA and MS degrees in Geology and a Teaching Certification for K-12 in Science and Earth Science. In service to the profession, he has held various positions in a number of organizations, including the Baton Rouge Geological Society, AAPG, and the Louisiana Environmental Health Association. He has also actively participated in numerous conferences, conventions, and seminars. He now consults part time as Senior Geologist with Losonsky and Associates.
